Gwynt y Môr: Construction notices – cable and wind turbine installation

The construction programme for the Gwynt y Môr is due to step up from the 1st April, with work to recommence on the export cable from the windfarm site, and construction work due to begin on the installation of wind turbine generators.  This notice provides a summary of upcoming plans.

Export Cable Join Work

Starting on the 1st April 2013 for a period of approximately 1 month, the vessel Stemat 89 will be jointing the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm export cables that have been laid from Pensarn beach and from the Offshore Substation East Platform (OSP East).

Stemat 89 will be assisted by anchor handling support tugs Nova K, Tessa W, Fenna B, and towing vessel Coastal Vanguard.  Stemat 89 has a 6 point mooring system and will require a 1000m exclusion zone.  The location of anchors will be marked with buoys.

Export Cable Installation Work

Starting on 1st April, the cable installation vessel Cable Enterprise will re-commence the export cable installation work from the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm site.  These works will continue until further notice.

There will be a total of 4 export cables, all running from the beach at Pensarn.  Two of the cables will run to the Offshore Sub Station East Platform (OSP East) and two to OSP West.

Cable Enterprise has a 6 point mooring system, and will be supported by the Norne, MCS Ailsa and Forth Jouster.  All vessels are asked to keep at least 1200m clear of the Cable Enterprise.  The location of anchors will be marked with buoys.

Wind Turbine Generator Installation

Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) installation work is due to start at Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm on the 5th April 2013.  The turbine installation vessel Sea Jack will arrive on site on 5th April, and will be joined by the Sea Worker at a later date.

The Sea Jack will be towed from Mostyn to the Wind Farm on a regular basis by the tugs Sea Golf and the Bever.  All vessels are requested to give the installation vessels 1000m clearance at all times.

All vessels will monitor VHF Channel 16 at all times.
