Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm: Jack up Vessel Operations and Wave Buoy Recovery – September 2022

Mariners are advised that turbine maintenance operations are due to be carried out by the jack up vessel Seajacks Hydra within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm off the North Wales coast during September 2022.  A Notice to Mariners about these operations is summarised below and can be downloaded here.

Additionally, the Gwynt y Môr Wave Buoy is due to be recovered and removed from its existing location in early September.  A Notice to Mariners has been issued for these operations which can be downloaded here and that is summarised below.

1. Turbine Maintenance Operations

The jack up vessel Seajacks Hydra is due to be carrying out maintenance at wind turbines G16E, A04B and D06B within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm area.  The location of these turbines can be seen on the Kingfisher Awareness Chart here, and coordinates are given below:-

  • Turbine G16E:  53°27.44667’N 003°30.64817’W
  • Turbine A04B: 53°29.44033’N 003°33.92533’W
  • Turbine D06B: 53°28.4325’N 003°34.23317”W

The start date for this work is expected to be the 25th September 2022 with an expected duration of 2 weeks.  The start date and duration are subject to weather and sea conditions.

Vessel details

Seajacks Hydra is a 62m long jack up vessel with a red hull and white superstructure.  The vessel details and a link to its present location are given below:-

When at the specified locations the vessel will be restricted in the ability to manoeuvre and will exhibit signals in accordance with the UK Standard Marking Schedule for Offshore Installations.

Other vessels are asked to observe a 500m exclusion zone at all times and to gain permission from the vessel before approaching within the 500m zone.

The vessel will monitor VHF Channel 16 at all times.

2. Wave buoy recovery

The  vessel Vital is due to recover the Gwynt y Môr wave buoy on the 7th of September 2022.  The location of the wave buoy is:-

  • Gwynt y Mor Wave Buoy: 53°28.596’N 003°30.154’W

The work is expected to take one day.

Vessel details

Vital is a 17m long tug with a dark coloured hull and a light coloured superstructure.  The vessel details and a link to its present location are given below:-

  • Vital: tug | Call signe 2GSI9 | MMSI 235100118
