Gwynt y Môr: Hydrographic Survey Operations, January 2019

Mariners are advised that hydrographic and geophysical survey operations are due to be carried out off the North Wales coast at a location within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm during January 2019.  A Notice to Mariners has been issued, which is summarised below and can be downloaded here.

Survey operations are due to start in the week commencing 28th January 2019, weather permitting.  The survey is expected to be completed in one day.

Location

The survey will take place in a 200m x 200m area around the C10D wind turbine in the Gwynt y Môr windfarm site.  The location of the survey work is illustrated in the Notice to Mariners which can be downloaded here.

Vessel details

The survey is to be carried out by the survey vessel Proteus.  The vessel details, including a link to its present location, are:-

  • Proteus: survey vessel | Call sign 2HBL7.

During the course of survey operations the vessel will be towing equipment on and below the water surface up to 300m behind the vessel.  Survey speed will generally be around 4 knots.  The vessel and may be restricted in the ability to manoeuvre and a wide berth is requested at all times.

The vessel will operate on a 12 hr basis and will display appropriate day shapes & lights during survey operations.  Further information about the survey vessel is provided in the Notice to Mariners which can be downloaded here.
