Mariners are advised that maintenance work is due to be carried out on one of the export cables from the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm close to the shore near to Abergele in North Wales. This work is due to start on the 19th / 20th July 2024 and to last up to 8 days, subject to weather conditions. A Notice to Mariners for this survey can be downloaded here and is summarised below.
Nature of Operations
The vessel Green Isle will be anchored close to the beach near Abergele to carry out maintenance work (identification of fault locations and preparing the cable for repair). The vessel will be secured at the repair location by wires attached to the three pre-installed anchors at the following locations:-
- Waypoint 1: 053° 18.23617’N 003° 34.50563’W
- Waypoint 2: 053° 18.10751’N 003° 34.67857’W
- Waypoint 3: 053° 18.11323’N 003° 34.27439’W
The work is due to start on the 19th/20th of July 2024 and to last up to 8 days. These dates are subject to weather and sea conditions.
Vessel details
The maintenance operations will be carried out by the vessel Green Isle which is a tug measuring 27.27m in length, 11.5m beam, with a green and black hull. The Crew Transfer Vessel CRC Gladiator will assist the Green Isle and run crew transfers from the Port of Mostyn.

Operations will be conducted on a 12-hour basis. The Green Isle will display the prescribed lights and signals for anchoring operations and will monitor VHF Channel 12 & 16 at all times.
During this survey the Green Isle will be anchored and occasionally beached and unable to manoeuvre. Other vessels are requested to pass at a safe speed and maintain a wide berth of at least 500m distance and to be aware of the 3 moorings and wires that run from them to the vessel.
