Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm: Risk of Cable Exposure, December 2018

[Please note – this Notice has been superceded by a more recent Notice that can be accessed here.  This earlier Notice is retained as part of the on-line archive of Notices issued for this project.]

Mariners are advised that a notice concerning the risk of cable exposure within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm site was  issued by the Gwynt y Môr Marine Coordinator on the 10th December 2018.  This notice can be downloaded here and is reproduced below.

Risk of cable exposure

The notice states that:-

Following recent surveys within the Gwynt y Môr offshore windfarm evidence of cable exposure has been observed THROUGHOUT the site, together with evidence of trawl scars crossing array cables.

As cable exposure is an identified risk at Gwynt-y-Môr and across the offshore wind industry, we would remind Mariners of the safety information found on the KIS-ORCA website ‘The risks of fishing near cables and renewable energy structures’.

To avoid crossing cables when trawling follow the cable corridors- locations of the cables can be found on the Gwynt y Môr awareness charts via KIS-ORCA.

The KIS-ORCA chart showing the location of cables within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm site can be downloaded here.

A notice concerning the conduct of fishing and angling vessels within the windfarm site was issued in January 2016 and can be downloaded here.
