Hunterston-Kintyre Cable: Marine installation update, 19th June 2015

Mariners are advised that the first phase of construction work on the Hunsterston-Kintyre cable was completed today, 19th June 2015.  A brief summary of these operations is provided below.

The vessel Nexans Skagerrak has laid the first of two cables between Ardeneil Bay and Kintyre.  The cable route is shown on a map here.

Trenching work has been carried out along the cable route to ensure it is protected in all areas where this is possible.  Cable protection will be installed at locations on the route where this has not been possible.

Nexans Skagerrak is due to return and commence installation of the second cable on or around 11th July 2015.  Mariners will be advised of the resumption of cable laying activity, and also any other work being carried out to provide protection to the cable along the route.

Three guard vessels are presently on station along the cable route and will provide advice to ensure the safety of mariners operating in the area until further notice.
