Gwynt y Môr: Notice to Mariners – Unexploded Ordnance

Three unexploded devices were discovered in the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm recently.  This notice provides information about an exclusion zone that has been established around this unexploded ordnance (UXO) and the plans to remove the objects.

Removal of UXO objects

RWE Innogy has been granted a licence to safely dispose of the UXO objects.  Work is currently underway to establish the safest way to remove the objects.  It is not uncommon for UXO to be found on the seabed and standard procedures are in place for dealing with such objects.

A statement has been issued by RWE Innogy about the removal of the objects, and this can be downloaded here.

UXO Exclusion Zones

The three UXO objects are located within the wind farm area in the vicinity of the Offshore Substation West and wind turbine K5Q.

To ensure the safety of all mariners in the area, RWE Innogy UK has established a 250m exclusion zone around the OSP West and turbine K5Q.  The location of this zone is shown in a map here.

The guard vessel Isadale is patrolling this area and will advise any vessels about the location of the site.  Isadale will monitor VHF Channel 16 at all times.

Please contact Jim Andrews, Fishery Liaison Officer by e-mail or phone (+44(0)7908-225865) if you have any queries or concerns about this notice.
