WHVDC Undersea Cable: Survey Update 20th November 2012

An update on the survey work being carried out for the proposed WHVDC undersea cable was issued this week on 19th November 2012.  The update can be downloaded here.  We have summarised the status of the survey below.

2012 survey work completed

Survey work on the WHVDC route has been completed for 2012.  A summary of the survey work that has been accomplished is set out below.

  • Geophysical survey – this work has now been completed by the vessel Granuaile.
  • Geotechnical survey – this work has now been completed by the vessel Granuaile.
  • ROV survey – this survey was completed for 2012 on the 11th November from the VOS Satisfaction
  • Inshore surveys.
    • Ardneil: diving operations were completed on the 18th November 2012 from the vessel Yorkshire Lady.
    • Wirral: survey work has been carried out by the vessel Remote Sensor.

Survey work in 2013

A survey for Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) along the cable route in the Beaufort Dyke and Liverpool Bay areas is due to take place in Spring of 2013 using ROV equipment.  Notices of this work will be circulated to all mariners in advance.

The WHVDC Link

The WHVDC Link will be an undersea cable linking Ardneil in the Clyde with the Wirral in north-west England.  Details of the project can be found on our website here.
