PRIORITY NOTICE Gwynt y Môr Windfarm: Navigation hazard 10th September 2012

A Navigation Warning advising of a navigation hazard has been issued for the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm today, 10th September 2012.  The full notice can be downloaded here and is summarised below.

The notice advises that the cable laying barge Cable Enterprise has had to abandon the cable laying plough along with some umbilical approximately 4.2 nautical miles north of Pensarn beach and 2 nautical miles west of the middle patch spit port hand lateral buoy.  This location is shown on the map here.  The precise location of the obstruction is:-

Latitude – 53° 21.87’N
Longitude – 3° 35.79’W

The water depths at LAT is approximately 5m.  The plough is 10m in length and 4.5m in height.

All vessels are advised to keep at least 1000m clear of this location.  The location of the plough and umbilical has been marked with buoys (pictured in the Navigation Warning).

Holyhead MRCC is issuing a local navigation warning every 3 hours, and the RWE npower renewables guard vessel MV Choice is on location and also broadcasting a navigation warning.  Both Holyhead MRCC and MV Choice can be contacted on VHF Channel 16.
