Gwynt y Môr: Notice to Mariners – Construction Update

Notices to Mariners about the construction activity scheduled for Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm during 2014 have been issued.  These notices are summarised below.

1.  Construction work update for 2014

Operations at the wind farm will continue into 2014.  These will include:-

  • Inter-array cable installation by the vessels Polar Prince and Polar King, supported by crew transfer vessels Rix Panther and Rix Tiger.
  • Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) installation by Sea Worker and Sea Jack, supported by vessels Sea Golf, Sea Echo, Sea Bravo and Bever.
  • Pile driving operations by JB114 supported by vessels Smit Barracuda and Union Diamond.
  • Foundation cleaning and drilling operations by Friederich Ernestine.
  • Diving operations by Normand Tonjer on site and on the export cable routes.
  • Guard vessel duties will be provided by the vessel Isadale.
  • Floating accommodation vessel Wind Solution will continue to anchor outside the southern boundary of the site.
  • Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) will transit to the site from Liverpool and Mostyn.  It is anticipate that the volume of vessel traffic will increase to provide support to construction activities on site.
  • Survey work will be carried out within the site and on the export cable route from time to time.  All agencies will be notified when this is due to occur.

2.  Inter Array Cable Operations: Polar King

The MV Polar King is due to arrive on site to assist the Polar Prince with inter-array cable installation work.  MV Polar King is expected to start operations on 7th January 2014.

Both vessels will be operating within the wind farm site.  Other vessels are requested to observe a 500m safety zone around these two vessels when they are engaged in operations.  A notice to mariners about this vessel can be downloaded here.

Polar King will monitor VHF Channel 16 at all times.
