Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm: Update on Heavy Lift Operations, April 2026

This is an update on progress with maintenance operations being carried out by the vessel MPI Adventure at wind turbines within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm off the North Wales coast during March-April 2026. An updated Notice to Mariners about these operations is summarised below and can be downloaded here.

Maintenance operations

The MPI Adventure is currently carrying out maintenance operations including heavy lift operations at several wind turbines within the Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm.

Operations have now been completed at five locations, listed below.

  • F15E: 053°27.780’N 003°30.978’W
  • F07J: 053°27.748’N 003°36.971’W
  • J17F: 053°26.788’N 003°29.993’W
  • M03L: 053°25.736’N 003°36.935’W
  • D03R: 053°28.418’N 003°36.983’W

The vessel is due to remain on station at F15E on weather standby before attending to two more turbines.  Work is expected to start on the 6th of April and last for 2-3 days (subject to weather) at the following locations:-

  • E12B: 053°28.107’N 003°32.605’W
  • G18E: 053°27.454’N 003°29.351’W

This work is being carried out under Marine Licence number 11/52/ML/4.

Vessel details

MPI Adventure is a jack up vessel measuring 138m in length by 41m in width. The vessel details and a link to its present location are given below:-

When at the specified location the vessel will be restricted in the ability to manoeuvre and will exhibit signals in accordance with the UK Standard Marking Schedule for Offshore Installations.

Other vessels are asked to give MPI Adventure a 500m wide berth at all times and to gain permission from the vessel before approaching within the 500m zone.

The vessel will monitor VHF Channel 16 at all times.

Notices to Mariners

Mariners are advised that the following Notices to Mariners have been issued for the Gwynt y Môr windfarm and export cable and remain current:-

  1. Gwynt y Môr offshore windfarm: updated survey operations – this notice was issued on 1st April 2026.  It advises mariners that survey work is planned to take place at turbines E12B and G18E on April 2nd 2026.  A summary of these works and the notice to mariners can be accessed here.
  2. Gwynt y Môr offshore windfarm: risk of cable exposure – this notice was issued in September 2021.  It advises mariners that there are areas where cables may be exposed within the windfarm array, and that these areas are subject to change in response to tidal and weather effects on the seabed.
