Annual Welsh Scallop Survey, June 2025

Mariners are advised that the RV Prince Madog is due to be surveying scallop beds off the Welsh coast in June 2025.  A Notice to Mariners about this work can be downloaded here and is briefly summarised below.

Survey work

The survey will use dredges, beam trawls, and a towed camera sledge to assess the scallop stocks in three locations:-

  • Cardigan Bay – between the 6th and 11th of June;
  • North of the Llyn Peninsula – on the 11th of June; and
  • Liverpool Bay / north-east Anglesey – on the 12th of June.

Dates and timings of the survey may alter in response to weather and sea conditions.

Vessel details

The survey will be carried out by the RV Prince Madog, which is a research vessel with a blue hull and white superstructure measuring 34.9m LOA.  A link to the vessel details and current location on the Marine Traffic website is provided below.
