Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm: Survey Operations, June-July 2025

Mariners are advised that survey operations are due to be carried out by the vessel Vanishing Point 2 at 2 turbines within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm off the North Wales coast during June-July 2025.  A Notice to Mariners about these operations is summarised below and can be downloaded here.

Survey operations

The Vanishing Point 2 is due to be carrying surveys at 2 turbines within the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm area and the nearby Met Mast location.  The survey is due to start on the 30th of June and will continue for approximately 3 days, subject to weather and sea conditions.

The survey locations are listed below and in the Notice to Mariners which can be downloaded here.

  • Turbine N01M: 053° 25.3941’N 003° 37.9015W
  • Turbine N03L: 053° 25.4024’N 003° 36.6051’W
  • Meteorological Mast: 053° 28.440’N 003° 30.5017’W

The location, latitude and longitude of all of the the turbines in the windfarm can be seen on the Kingfisher Awareness Chart here.

This work is being carried out under Marine Licence number 11/52/ML/4.

Vessel details

Vanishing Point 2 is a Crew Transfer Vessel measuring 14m in length by 5m in width, with a white hull and white superstructure.  The vessel details and a link to its present location are given below:-

When at the specified locations the vessel will be towing equipment and restricted in the ability to manoeuvre.  Mariners are requested where possible to maintain a 500m exclusion area around the survey vessel.

The vessel will monitor VHF Channel 16 at all times.

Notices to Mariners

Mariners are advised that the following Notices to Mariners have been issued for the Gwynt y Môr windfarm and export cable and remain current:-

  1. Gwynt y Môr offshore windfarm: risk of cable exposure – this notice was issued in September 2021.  It advises mariners that there are areas where cables may be exposed within the windfarm array, and that these areas are subject to change in response to tidal and weather effects on the seabed.  The information in this notice, as well as links to advice on fishing near cables and renewable energy structures and links to the cable array map for the windfarm can be accessed here.
  2. Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm: ROV Survey Operations – June 2025 – this notice was issued on June 11th 2025.  It advisers mariners of ROV survey operations around 20 turbines within the windfarm array.  A summary of this notice and a link to it can be accessed here.

All other Notices to Mariners have been withdrawn.
