Gwynt y Môr Export Cable Repair: Dredging Works, June-August 2025

Mariners are advised that dredging works are due to be conducted along the route of the export cable from the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm near to Abergele in North Wales between June and August 2025.  The Notice to Mariners for this work can be downloaded here and is summarised below.

Nature of Operations

Dredging operations are due to be carried out by the vessel Capall Mara along the route of the export cable from the Gwynt y Mor Offshore Wind Farm.  This work is being carried out in preparation for maintenance work on the export cable later this year.

The dredging vessel will work in an area extending from the low water mark to a distance approximately 990m offshore.  The location of the work is illustrated in the Notice to Mariners here.  The extent of the dredging work is bound by the following waypoints:-

  • Waypoint 1: 053° 18.07841’N 003° 34.15493’W
  • Waypoint 2: 053° 18.33809’N 003° 34.93446’W

The dredging work is due to start in late June / early July 2025 and extend until August 2025.  These dates are subject to weather and sea conditions.

Vessel details

The dredging work will be carried out by the vessel Capall Mara which is a jack-up vessel measuring 39.6m in length, 14m beam, with a dark hull and a red superstructure.  The dredger will be supported by the Crew Transfer Vessel CRC Gladiator which is 14m in length, 5m beam, and has a dark hull wiht a grey coloured superstructure.

Dredging operations will be conducted on a 24-hour basis.  The vessel will display the prescribed lights and signals for survey operations and will monitor VHF Channel 12 & 16 at all times.

During this work the dredging vessel will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre. Other vessels are requested to pass at a safe speed and maintain a wide berth of at least 500m distance.
