Undersea Cable Survey: Yell-Unst Cables, Shetland

Mariners are advised that submarine power cable surveys are due to be carried out in Bluemull Sound, Shetland.  This survey work is due commence no earlier than Saturday 5th September 2015.  A notice to mariners about this work can be downloaded here and is summarised below.

This survey work is due to be carried out over a period of around 2 weeks, starting no earlier than 5th September (dates are weather dependent).  The survey will be carried out by the vessel Humber Guardian in a corridor 500m either side of the centre line between these points:-

  • Yell 60°41.51’N, 0°59.98’E and
  • Unst 60°41.697’N, 0°58.487’E.

Survey operations will be carried out during the hours of daylight.  Humber Guardian will display the appropriate day shapes / signals and at times of reduced visibility will display appropriate lights as required by IRCPS.  The vessel will actively transmit an AIS signal.  A continuous listening watch will be maintained on VHF Channel 16 and DSC.

During survey operations, Humber Guardian will be restricted in the ability to manoeuvre.  All vessels operating in the area are requested to maintain a safe distance and pass at minimum speed.
